OK, so I’m probably not supposed to play favorites, but I think this was my favorite bouquet of the year. I just loved the pink, peach, and coral colors with a little blue for contrast. And the dangly bits! The sweet autumn clematis was in bloom this week, and I found a good wild patch near my house. That’s what creates the naturally cascading effect in the bride’s bouquet.
I won’t mention the unexpected ordeal of assembling and disassembling the chuppah (oops, I did it anyway), but the finished product was exactly as I’d imagined. In a Jewish ceremony, the chuppah represents the home the couple will build together. In my mind, then, the flowers represent the garden they will plant, and so I set out to create a chuppah design that resembled the flowering shrubs and climbing vines that adorn a fairytale cottage. Roses, hydrangeas, zinnias, and delphinium are clustered together and intertwined with one another to suggest that they’ve grown together over a long life.
